Mary is a first grade teacher at Blessed Trinity School and mother of two children, one and four years old. Since beginning her training a year ago, Mary has trimmed 30 pounds, conquered a rope climb and completed her first handstand push up with a plate. Her dance background gives her an advantage in core control and coordination and it shows in her movements!

Time for a Change

After the birth of my second child I was really struggling to get back into shape.  After trying numerous things, I knew I was going to have to increase the intensity of my workouts.  I had thought about training at Blue Wave before but was really too scared to even inquire about it.  But I eventually got desperate enough for a change so I began looking into cross training.  After looking around at different gyms, I made an appointment at Blue Wave—something about Blue Wave made training less intimidating.

First Impressions

My instincts were right!  The coaches and members at Blue Wave are so helpful and encouraging.  The coaches take the time to personally coach each member during a class.  They are great about understanding your limitations, yet push you enough that you can move past those limitations and set new goals.

Biggest Highlight

I suppose my best memory is when I did my first rope climb.  When I first started I barely had enough arm strength to hang on the rope for more than 2 seconds.  This summer I was able to accomplish my first rope climb.

Advice for other mothers?

I would tell them that you are in good hands at Blue Wave.  It’s not an intimidating gym whatsoever and the coaches, as well as the other members are all so encouraging and excited to see you succeed.  You are given so much personal guidance—it’s like personal training but with a fun group of people. It truly is like a family.

As long as you keep coming back, you will see results.  It took my body a little bit, but it has finally ‘clicked’.  I’m so happy I made the decision to join.  I honestly can’t see myself ever joining a traditional gym again.

What’s Next?

I’m excited to continue to progress in my strength and stamina.  I hope to accomplish an unassisted handstand push up next.
